Piano Lessons

Harry Likas is a jazz pianist and teacher in Berkeley offering online and in‑person piano lessons. He teaches through real songs in jazz, Latin, and pop styles, using the music itself to show how chords, melody, and rhythm connect at the keyboard.

His approach is built for players who want to deepen their musicianship — not memorize routines — and who want to understand how harmony actually works.

A central part of Harry’s teaching is his simple 2+2 chord approach — two notes in each hand — a hand‑friendly way of organizing harmony that makes progressions feel natural, repeatable, and musical. Students learn to move through changes smoothly, whether they’re reading a lead sheet or playing by ear.

Harry works with returning adults and advancing players who want to strengthen their harmonic understanding, improvisation, repertoire, and overall clarity at the keyboard.

Lessons are available in Berkeley or online, and video lessons work especially well for this approach.

Harry contributed to Mark Levine’s The Jazz Piano Book and served as Technical Editor for The Jazz Theory Book. He is also the longtime house pianist at the Berkeley City Club.
